Letter to Larkin Watson 1861 April 23rd.

Watson, Madison Court House, informs his father, of Stanardsville, Greene County, Va., that he has dismissed his school, joined the Richardson Guards and is drilling every day at Madison Court House while waiting orders to march. He explains that he abhors war but as "our rights are in danger ... it is the duty of every young man ... to take up arms in defence of his country."
